Andaman itineraries are usually built around three islands: Port Blair, the capital and gateway, home to the Cellular Jail National Memorial and its light-and-sound show; Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep), known for Radhanagar Beach and as the main base for scuba diving and snorkelling; and Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep), smaller and quieter, popular for a relaxed day or two between the other two. Inter-island travel is by ferry, so itineraries are timed around ferry schedules.
October–May is the main season, with January–March generally offering the calmest seas for water sports and diving. June–September is the monsoon, when ferry schedules and some water activities can be disrupted by rough seas.
A quick Port Blair-and-Havelock trip works in 3 nights. Adding Neil Island for a fuller island-hopping circuit needs 4–5 nights to allow for ferry transfer days.
Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair has direct flights from Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi and other major Indian cities. From Port Blair, Havelock and Neil Island are reached by government or private ferry, generally 1.5–3 hours depending on the vessel.
