Kashmir is built around four base towns, each with its own character: Srinagar, on the shore of Dal Lake, known for houseboat stays and Mughal gardens; Gulmarg, a hill station and ski resort with the Gondola cable car; Pahalgam, a river valley used as a base for Betaab Valley and Aru Valley; and Sonmarg, the gateway to the Thajiwas Glacier. Most Ghumega India itineraries combine two or three of these towns depending on trip length.
March–May brings tulip blooms and mild weather — the most popular honeymoon window. June–August is cooler than the rest of India and busy with domestic tourists. September–October has clearer mountain views with autumn colour (chinar trees turning). December–February is snow season in Gulmarg and Pahalgam, popular for snow activities but with some higher-altitude roads affected by weather — check current conditions with your travel expert before a winter trip.
A first-time Kashmir trip is comfortable at 5–6 nights — enough for Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam without rushed transfers. Shorter 3-night trips work if you're focusing on Srinagar and one hill town. Longer 8–9 night itineraries add Sonmarg and/or combine Kashmir with a Vaishno Devi darshan via Katra.
Srinagar Airport (SXR) has direct flights from Delhi, Mumbai, and other major Indian cities — the usual starting point for Ghumega India's Kashmir packages. By rail, Jammu Tawi is the nearest major station, followed by a road journey into the valley; several itineraries also combine a Jammu/Katra Vaishno Devi leg with the Kashmir portion by road.
